The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) met today with the Ministry of Education with a view to starting the collaboration between the two entities. Several matters were discussed during the meeting, namely the current situation on placing psychologists in schools which the OPP expressed its concern about, given the number of Psychology Services which are currently not in operation. The Minister indicated that she understood the matter and presented a solution for its resolution, which requires approval by joint decision.
The Minister also expressed her willingness to resolve a situation that has dragged on for over 25 years - the fact that psychologists are prevented from teaching Psychology in Secondary Schools due to the lack of a specific teaching qualification.
The Minister of Education agreed to cooperate with the OPP in demanding a higher accountability for psychological acts performed in an educational setting. Details such as personal identification by means of the professional certificate number in all psychological acts, as well as evidence of registration with the Order in competition procedures.
