Several requests for clarification have arrived at the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) by members of the Order, regarding the possibility of access to job offers and/or professional internship programmes as trainees.
Due to the fact that the Order is currently awaiting the approval of the Internship Regulation by the Ministry of Health, it is our understanding that trainee members must be able to continue their professional career, in compliance with the provisions set forth regarding the professional practice of psychology, in Law nº 57/2008, of the 4th September, by applying for jobs and/or undertaking professional internships, providing their application for registration is in order.
When the Internship Regulation has been approved and enters into force, it shall be the Order's duty to analyse each trainee member's current situation and recognise their professional experience and/or the professional internships undertaken in the meantime.
The entities and institutions that are potential employers of psychologists are increasingly important in the process of entering the labour market and the increasing recognition of Psychologists in various areas of activity and their subsequent increase in employability, and therefore they should continue to accept the contribution of these professionals within the above mentioned framework.
