The Congress, was held by the Nacional Associação for the Study and Intervention on Giftedness (NASIG), in Torres Vedras, from November 30th to December 1st approached issues such as: Talents and Giftedness, Creativity and Inovation, Enterpreneurship and Citizenship, Inovation in Education.
In the closing speach of the Congress, the President congratulated the organization and the participants for creating an event that approached the issue of giftedness in it's numerous implications. Telmo Mourinho Baptista claimed that it is important to demystify giftedness, end the preconceptions and promote inclusion, duties of a democratic society. Mentioning talent, a matter he emphasize, the President made four questions that is paramount that those in charge answer: Can we afford to loose our talents? Shouldn't we bet on our talents to make societies move forward? Aren't talents our ticket to be inovative and isn't the crisis the moment when we need talent and inovative solutions even more?
Finally, it's importante to say that this initiative brought together researchers and professors from Canada, Brazil, Spain and Portugal, experienced in identifying and intervening with children/ youngsters that show the characteristics of giftedness and talent. When it comes to providing treatment to this students Portugal follows on the internacional footsteps, the developing programs being an important tool to achieve that, to which we can add some regulatory measures.
