Professional Practice, Professional Certificate and the regularisation of registering with the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses

The OPP hereby clarifies the following:

1) All psychologists, in all acts relating to their professional practice, must identify themselves by means of their respective Professional Certificate number;

2) The use of the professional title of psychologist must always be in compliance with Law Nº 57/2008, of the 4th September, namely concerning the mandatory registration of professionals with the Ordem dos Psicólogos.

3) The failure to comply with the provision in the previous paragraph is deemed to be the criminal offence of usurpation of functions;

4) The Judicial Committee is currently investigating malpractice claims. At present, all claims which exceed the legal boundaries of the Judicial Committee are submitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

5) We hereby request that all psychologists who are eligible to be full members, regularise their situation by registering until the 1st March 2011.

The failure to comply with the aforementioned provisions is deemed to be the non-compliance of the law in force.
