24.July.2012

The OPP stated that it was essential, for the exercising of the profession, that OPP interns had access to the IEFP financing programmes. This lack of access is making it difficult for OPP interns to carry out the internships within the current legal framework.

Last week, the OPP met with the Secretary of State for Employment. In this meeting, the OPP presented the work it had undertaken in defence of the greater employability of Psychologists, such as the training of the OPP Interns, namely in Entrepreneurial and Project Management, and also expressed its concern at the exclusion of the interns of the professional orders in getting access to the financing of professional internships connected to the IEFP.

The OPP also discussed the worrying data related to the unemployment of Psychologists, mentioning that the studies carried out on the professional situation of Psychologists in Portugal, and also the inclusion measures in the profession through the recognition of experience and internships. The launch of the Microcredit protocol with Montepio Geral was also viewed as a tool to support entrepreneurial Psychologists.

The OPP concluded by highlighting the urgent need to revoke the order which does not allow access by the interns of the professional orders to the financing for the professional internships connected to the IEFP.
