
The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) was present at the VII Psychology Meetings which took place this week in the city of Viseu. Miguel Ricou, President of the Conselho Jurisdicional (Jurisdictional Council) of the Order, led the Conference “Psychology: Professional Ethics and Practice”.
According to Miguel Ricou, responsibility is fundamental for the ethical practice of the profession. In this sense, «training is needed to promote competence regarding ethical rationality, or in other words, the professional needs to be able to identify dilemmas, consider ethics principles, with the objective of increasing the level of security of their decisions», he stated. «The expectation of those who go to a psychologist is that he is excellent», and so, the average standard of the psychologist «must be excellence».
The meeting was intended to be a space for the exhibition, discussion and sharing of knowledge among professionals, researchers, professors and students of Psychology. For two days, 36 speakers from some of the most important Portuguese universities, such as Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade de Coimbra, Universidade de Évora, Universidade de Coimbra, Universidade do Porto, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Miguel Torga and Instituto Piaget, met in the city of Viseu.
The Meetings were an initiative of the Instituto Superior de Estudos Interculturais e Transdisciplinares de Viseu and were held at the Campus Universitário de Viseu.
