Course Associated with Professional Internships

OPP training allows the admission of more than two thousand new permanent members

31.May.2012

Since its launch, the Training Course Associated with Professional Internships allowed 2007 trainees to have their entry process as a permanent member of the Order finalised.

The Training Course Associated with Professional Internships was launched in December 2010, and is part of the professional experience recognition system which is included in the OPP Regulation. Since then, courses have taken place in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga, Guimarães, Bragança, Covilhã, Leiria, Caldas da Rainha, Aveiro, Santa Maria da Feira, Viseu, Albufeira, Loulé, Faro, Beja, Évora, Almada, Funchal, Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo.

In the 133 courses already concluded, 2007 trainees passed the course, thereby concluding the process to become a permanent member of the OPP. In addition, 12 courses have been launched or are in progress, in which 180 trainees are registered and currently attending a course, or are registered and are waiting for the start of the respective course. Seventy five of these trainees will terminate their training next week.

The feedback from the trainees who attend the course has been very positive, and the work done by the trainees in the more practical modules has generated ideas which help the OPP in its mission to assert psychologists.

The professional experience recognition system allowed the recognition of the experience of those who had professional experience prior to the publication of the regulations of internships of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP). The system was available until the end of December 2011, allowing 2517 members of the OPP to obtain recognition within the maximum time (12 months). The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses continues to try to have article 84 of Law 57/2008, which regulates the exemption for the execution of the professional internship to become a permanent member, changed, however, as the proposal made on the 12th of May 2010 has not yet been accepted, the process for the recognition of professional experience is an active response to the situation of people who have already had experience during the creation of the law.

Therefore, there are still 330 members who simply need to take the training course which will continue to be available until the end of July of this year. From September, the courses aimed at internship members who are carrying out their respective professional internship at the OPP will be available. These courses stand out thanks to their duration, content and evaluation system.
