This was one of the main conclusions of the Conference “Young Employment, Perspective and Horizon”, organised by the Secretary of State of Youth and Sports, in partnership with the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP).

The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) prepared a round table at the Conference “Young Employment, Perspective and Horizon”, which took place on Thursday, at ISCTE, in Lisbon. The event was organised by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, together with other entities, including the Ordem dos Psicólogos (OPP).

Samuel Antunes, vice-president and Francisco Rodrigues, member of the Board of the Order, mentioned the experience in the training of more than 1300 psychologists, in entrepreneurship and project management, in little over a year. Francisco Rodrigues spoke of the importance, for the success of the entrepreneur, of personal skills, namely communication and relationships. «Today, what is more important is that each has the capacity to manage their skills throughout their life in order to be successful», Samuel Antunes also stated.

Other issues covered at the round table organised by Ordem dos Psicólogos (OPP) was mentoring and coaching. «We are preparing a programme related to this for psychologists who intend to move forward with entrepreneurial projects», Samuel Antunes said. The programme is still in a pilot phase, but the Order aims at associating it with support projects.

According to the Ordem dos Psicólogos (OPP), what really makes the difference are personal skills, namely in terms of behaviour and attitude. It is important to commit to this early on, preparing youths, from a young age, for an active and entrepreneurial life. This point, defended by the Order, was even reinforced by various participants, in a discussion which followed at the round table, and at other tables.

In addition to the Ordem dos Psicólogos (OPP); the conference was attended by the Federação Nacional das Associações Juvenis (National Federation of Youth Associations) the Conselho Nacional de Juventude (National Council of Youth) the Associação Nacional de Jovens Empresários (National Association for Young Businesspeople, Audax and Junior Achievement. The plenary session was attended by the Chairman of BIAL, the secretaries of State for Entrepreneurship, Employment, Higher Education and with the Head of the Representation of the European Committee in Portugal. The closing session was led by the deputy minister and the minister for Parliamentary Matters.
