Order warns of problems of psychologists in the area of rehabilitation

25.January.2012

The OPP promoted a reflection to identify the problems that the professionals who work in this area face.

The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) promoted a group reflection to identify the problems that the professions who work in the area of rehabilitation face. In this exploratory phase, a set of concerns and problems were raised in the professional practising of psychologists.

This work was used to establish the basis for a document which will be used to launch a wider reflection which will include the clarification of the role of the psychologist in a system or specific intervention context, rehabilitation as a transversal intervention to various areas, the awareness of institutions and people who manage projects and the integration of Intervention models. The aim was to get to know the reality of the operation of psychologists in institutions which contemplate various areas of intervention.

This meeting, which took place at the head office of the Order, on Monday, came from a request made by HUMANITAS – Portuguese Federation for Mental Disability which, last December, was at the Order to present the concerns of psychologists in this area.

The Order will continue to develop initiatives of this type, which allow them to get to know the various dimensions of the reality of the professionals, so as to find solutions which allow for a better professional assertiveness and the provision of better care to citizens.
