Closure of the System for the Recognition of Professional Experience

Those who have the documents needed to request the recognition of professional experience and have not yet sent it to the OPP, have until the 31st of December.

The System for the Recognition of Professional Experience consists of a transitory system of the equivalence of various parts of the Professional Internship of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP), based on article 25 of the OPP Regulation for Professional Internships.

Therefore, this system will allow for the recognition of professional experience (including that acquired in the execution of professional internships prior to those of the Order) and is aimed at dealing with the situation created by a legal void which exists in the publication of Law 57/2008 (which created OPP and approved its statutes) and the publication of the Regulation of the Order's Professional Internship Regulations which allowed the start of the functioning of the Professional Internships of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP), whose obligation was set out in Law 57/2008. This system would also allow the resolution of gaps in the system for dispensing with the professional internship of the OPP stated in article 84 of Law 57/2008.

Currently, and during its year of operation, this system has allowed for the recognition of the professional experience of 2400 internship members. However, as more than one year has passed since the publication of the regulation of the internships of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) and as, under the terms of point 2 of article 25 of the Internship Regulation of the OPP, the system only allows for the recognition of professional experience initiated before the publication of the Internship Regulations of the OPP, the number of people who can benefit from this recognition has been significantly reduced during recent months.

As a consequence, the Board decided to close this transitory system at the end of this calendar year. Therefore, those who have the documents needed to request the recognition of professional experience and have not yet sent it to the OPP, have until the 31st of December 2011.

The Order underlines that this does not mean the closure of the training courses associated with Professional Internships for the people in the System for the Recognition of Professional Experience on this day. The communication of the closing date of the courses for this specific audience will be done before the closure date, in conformity with the evolution of the needs identified.
