The President of the Ordem dos Psicólogos (OPP), Telmo Baptista, participated in the Ist Forum of the Health Regulating Entity (ERS) on “The Path of Independent Health Regulation”, which took place in Porto, on the 16th of September, at the Fundação Dr. António Cupertino de Miranda Auditorium.
Regarding the relationship between the ERS and the Portuguese psychologists, Telmo Baptista highlighted a past history which only includes the application of infractions, and how the Order supported the contestation of this application, with a different understanding from the ERS regarding the registration requirements.
The President made it clear that the relationship between the ERS and the Order have a common path in the future, if it contributes to studying the reasons for the selective exclusion of psychology consultations in the insurance system and makes recommendations regarding this, as it does for other health sectors.
He also highlighted that the issues of equality to access in terms of health are not even discussed when there are no public services which provide accompaniment of recommendations. He also asked that the ERS clarify the understanding it has on the licensing of psychology establishments.
Telmo Baptista was part of a table dedicated to “Regulation from the Perspective of Providers and Professions”, which included presidents of the health sector orders.
