As the result of a set of meetings requested by the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) with the Ministers of the various areas of the 19th Constitutional Government, the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) was received by the Secretary of State for Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Isabel Leite on the 14th of September, with the objective of dealing with some issues which the Ministry of Education is responsible for.
The Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP) requested the reopening of the process which would allow psychologists to have Qualification of Teaching of the subject of Psychology in Secondary Schools. The Secretary of State showed her concordance and placed the situation of Psychology in a framework which is greater than the various professions which do not have the Qualifications to teach the subjects for which they have specific scientific training, noting that she expects this situation to be resolved in time for the new school year.
The OPP also showed their availability to participate in the revision of the psychologists table of attributions within a school context, a process which should be associated with an increase in the presence and stabilisation of psychologists within school groups. In this sense, the OPP also expressed their concern regarding the maintenance of Psychology Services being ensured by psychologists placed in the regime of additional teaching needs (Law 35/1007). The Secretary of State ensured the continuity of psychologists who provide services in the area of Special Educational Needs, and also the maintenance of psychologists integrated in the Educational Territories of Priority Intervention, who are registering good results.
The need for psychologists to identify themselves with their Professional Licences, both for being contracted in schools and also in the preparation of reports was established.
