THE ORDER MEETS WITH THE MINISTER OF HEALTH

The Ordem dos Psicólogos, represented by the Vice-President (Samuel Antunes) and Voting Member (Luz Melo) met with the Minister of Health on the 4th August. In addition to presenting the Regulation for Professional Internships, the Order and the Minister assessed the current situation faced by Psychologists in Centro Hospitalar Psiquiátrico de Lisboa (Lisbon Psychiatric Hospital), Health Centres and the INEM. Clearly in a cooperative mood, the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to finding solutions to resolve these issues, namely by creating the conditions for the Psychologists in question to be eligible to apply in competitions forecast.

The Minister expressed her satisfaction at being able to count on the collaboration of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses in assessing, discussing and resolving issues relating to good psychological practices and their contribution in promoting health in their multiple facets.
The Ordem dos Psicólogos reaffirmed its commitment and availability to cooperate with the Ministry of Health in creating the conditions that on the one hand, shall allow the status of Psychology in the area of Health to be raised, and on the other, to broaden the psychological services supplied to the Portuguese population.
The role the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses has in the National Mental Health Commission and the cooperation underway in defining the 2011-2016 National Health Plan, shall certainly be important contributions towards this goal.
