The President mentions, among other things, the publication of a report with various national and international studies which prove the importance of the integration of more psychologists in hospitals and health centre.

The situation may lead to a set back in the struggle against lack of success in school and drop-outs, among other things. The Ordem dos Psicólogos (OPP) is paying special attention to the commitment of the Secretary of State for Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Isabel Leite, who ensured the continuity of psychologists who provide services in the area of Special Educational Needs, and also the maintenance of psychologists integrated in the Educational Territories of Priority Intervention who are registering good results.

Last Friday, in the Diário da República, the orders related to the alterations to the Professional Internship Regulations and the Regulation of Rates and Fees, approved by the General Meeting of Representatives of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP), in December 2010, were published.

The first meeting of a cycle of seven conferences, organised by Associação Recriar Caminhos and the Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Coimbra, was aimed at bringing attention to the new paradigm in mental health in Portugal.

The journalist stated that the document raises «interesting questions» which may be disturbing to those who «look at the presence of psychology as a luxury far from being essential».
